Short synopsis
In Post-Office Bay on Floreana Island, travelers have left unstamped letters in a wooden barrel since 1793, trusting strangers to deliver them by hand. Ethan Kyle takes the woman he loves to the Galápagos in 2006, and there she discovers who he really is.
Years later, a couple knocks on his apartment door with a postcard taken from the barrel. The world's most honest mail service becomes his map: names, addresses and entire families who trust strangers. The police manhunt that follows runs through Darwin's voyage on the Beagle, the Pacific whalers, the US base at Baltra in the Second World War and the unsolved Floreana deaths of the 1930s.

What I'm writing next
POST-OFFICE and BOCA SOLE open a series of standalone psychological thrillers: in each, an ordinary, overlooked person turns predator, and the story is braided with real places and history.
-
BOCA SOLE: Sunset Killings (complete)
At Boca Sole, a gated golf community near Boca Raton, the man in the green groundskeeper's uniform is invisible: the guard waves him through, and the residents never learn his name. Eduardo Oliveira came from Governador Valadares — Brazil's capital of emigration — by way of Newark's Ironbound, and he knows which families are travelling, which codes open which doors, and that no one calls the police over a cold house and a single glass left out to dry. When bodies begin turning up at sunset, Detective Renée Castellanos follows the trail back through the Brazilian immigrant world to two brothers, Eduardo and Edson, a childhood on the Rio Doce, and the oldest question of all: am I my brother's keeper?
-
ALLIGATOR
A boy disfigured in the favela attack that killed his parents becomes Rio's most powerful drug lord. He rebuilds his face, reinvents himself as a celebrity developer, and runs for mayor. The story is woven with true events, from Manuel Jacaré's 1941 raft voyage to the naming of Pedra da Gávea in 1501.
